Pop Art Band Prints

Pop Art Band Prints

Design or print a logo to use for a Pop Art print on a separate sheet of paper.
This example uses a band logo from the TV show Lost.
The indentation needs to be backwards on the plate “stamp,”
so you will need to place the paper upside down on the bottom of your plate.
Secure the paper in place with a piece of tape .

Using a plastic pressing tool (alternatively a pen, skewer, popsicle stick, or paperclip),
push down into the plate, tracing all of the lines of your logo.
You will want to press hard enough to make a dent in the foam,
but not hard enough to break through the plate.
Once all lines are traced, remove the paper with the original design.

Inspect your indentation. If any lines seem faint, go over them a few more times
with your pressing tool. Anything that is meant to be left white in your print should be
pressed in on the plate. You should be able to feel the difference in texture on your design.

Cover the bottom of your plate in a thin layer of paint.
The paint should at least cover the area surrounding your design.
I like the effect made from visible brushstrokes where the color has been painted on,
but you could also smooth this out if you prefer.

Carefully press the plate onto a sheet of poster paper with the paint facing down.
Gently rub the surface of the plate to be sure that all paint has had a chance to make contact.
Lift the plate straight up to remove it from the paper, leaving behind a print from your stamp design!
You can repeat the stamping process with different colors on the same sheet to turn your poster
into a true masterpiece.

Troubleshooting:

If your prints come out unclear like this, there is not enough paint on the bottom of the stamp.
The paint layer should be thin, but should be spread more evenly across your design.

If your prints are smudged like this image, there are two common problems.
Your stamp may have too much paint. Try stamping a second time without adding additional paint
to see if it prints more clearly.

The indentation may not be deep enough. Try going over the lines of your design again
with a little more force. If the indentation is deeper, it will be less likely to fill with paint.
